Indulge in melty, ooh wee goodness!

It all begins with fresh, mouth-watering cheese. Grilled with a just a touch of butter until it reaches a light brown color. Melted cheese you dream about. Crisp crust, warm melted center with a hint of salt.

"These are NOT your mothers. Mine came with fried green tomatoes, basil, Mozzarella and cheddar cheese. My husband had a bacon-mac-and-cheese grilled cheese! Everything was incredible!

—Seal Beach review

Wow. I ordered the "are you kidding me grilled cheese." It had bacon mac & cheese with a slice of cheddar on Texas toast. They have booze which is a big plus. Nice outdoor patio and indoor seating. Heaters outside if it's cold. Make sure you are hungry; the portions are very large. I took a 3 hour nap after I ate my grilled cheese and had one drink. So good!! A+

Grilled Cheese History

The origin of the grilled cheese in the United States dates back to the early 1920s. During the depression, bread and cheese was relatively inexpensive. Sandwiches were open faced called the "cheese dream." In 1949, Jonathan Kraft of Kraft Foods introduced processed cheese singles. The cheese dream would go to become popular during the 1950s. Fast forward circa 1965, the grilled cheese sandwich was born.

Credit is technically given to the French who invented the Croque-monsieur circa 1910. The sandwich is made from brioche bread and topped with cheese with the bread grilled before with the cheese melting over the edges. Ham is placed in the middle. The Croque-monsieur originated in cafes as quick snack.

National grilled cheese day is celebrated each year on April 12th.
